Following the success of the 2011 prize we are delighted to announce the launch of the Tibor Jones Pageturner Prize 2013.

The biennial Tibor Jones Pageturner Prize aims to unearth new and exciting writing, offering debut novelists an opportunity to showcase their talent.  Tibor Jones & Associates, now more than ever, values the importance of emerging original fiction.

Alongside Sophie Lambert, Literary Agent & Director at Tibor Jones & Associates and James Pusey, Rights Consultant at Tibor Jones & Associates, the panel of judges will consist of Independent Booksellers Jasper Sutcliffe, Head of Buying at Foyles, Roy Butlin of Herne Hill & Clapham Books and author Evie Wyld of Review Bookshop in Peckham Rye.

“For me as a Bookseller the Pageturner Prize brings together the wonder of discovery, the romance of finding a new literary star or stars and hopefully lots of sales. The Pageturner Prize is just what the publishing industry needs”. Jasper Sutcliffe.

Sophie and James are dedicated to building the careers of exceptional writers, working closely with them to develop and present their manuscripts to the right publishers in both the UK home market and internationally. This knowledge, together with the incredible collective experience of Jasper, Roy and Evie, who are always on the lookout for standout new voices, ensures that the writing chosen is distinctive, absorbing and above all, pageturning.

Sophie Lambert says Discovering new talent and helping an exciting new author to be published is one of the greatest joys and privileges of being an agent. Our inaugural Pageturner Prize was even more successful than we hoped: two new authors are being published with deals in over ten territories, including an unprecedented eleven way auction in the UK. Now the biennial Pageturner Prize is back and we are thrilled to be working with judges from three of London’s finest independent booksellers to find some great new page-turning stories.

The inaugural prize was launched in 2011 and received an extraordinary response with over 400 manuscripts submitted and culminated in Gabriel Gbadamosi being announced winner for his wonderfully evocative novel Vauxhall, which will be published by Telegram Books in Spring 2013.

“The prize gets your book seen in the pre-modern souk of the London Book Fair; it gets heard above the din of an industry that’s doing hectic business and thinks it’s dying. It is an irresistible bargain; it is a life-saver.” Gabriel Gbadamosi, 2011 Pageturner Prize winner.

Nathan Filer’s The Shock of the Fall – the runner-up in 2011 – is another hotly anticipated debut, and will be published by Harper Fiction in Spring 2013.

Nathan Filer says “I didn’t win the 2011 Pageturner Prize, but Tibor Jones saw potential in my writing. I was placed on the shortlist and offered representation. This is a huge milestone in any writer’s career, and I could not have found a better literary agency to work with. Part nurturing family, part incisive editors; they were instrumental in helping me improve my novel, then did the rather important job of getting it published. I can’t recommend this competition highly enough.”

Entry for the 2013 Tibor Jones Pageturner Prize is open to any unrepresented writer with a completed or nearly completed draft of an unpublished novel and can be submitted from Wednesday November 14th 2012 until January 14th 2013.

The winner of the prize will be announced at the London Book Fair 2013 and will receive £1,000 and literary representation by Tibor Jones & Associates, London’s leading literary agency for the post-digital generation.
