Anna Freeman’s debut THE FAIR FIGHT, is a pulsating historical novel set within the world of female pugilists and their patrons in late eighteenth century Bristol. It’s immersive plot becomes a vehicle for addressing issues of gender identity and female empowerment as the novel builds towards the electrifying climax of the Championship fight.

Arzu Tahsin bought UK and Commonwealth rights in a competitive auction from Sophie Hignett at Tibor Jones. It is scheduled for publication in August 2014. Whilst Sarah McGrath at Riverhead bought North American rights in a in a significant deal, at auction from James Pusey at Tibor Jones.

THE FAIR FIGHT was the unanimous winner of the Tibor Jones Pageturner Prize 2013 judged by a panel including Granta Best of British novelist Evie Wyld and Jasper Sutcliffe, Head Buyer of Foyles who said “The Fair Fight stood out on account of its vigorous storytelling, the dexterity of its language and the author’s ability to create characters that live and breathe. A superb act of imaginative ventriloquism.”

 

Anna is in her early-30s and a lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University, as well as a multiple slam-winning performance poet
