The Pink Sari Revolution

How do you overcome oppressors as an illiterate, poor women in Bundelkhand, the badlands of India? Easy. You put on a pink sari, carry a pink-painted bamboo stick and join the Pink Gang.

The Pink Sari Revolution presents a memorable cast of characters who make up the unprecedented, all-women vigilante organisation numbering 20,000.

Everyone has joined the gang for different reasons. Geetha joined to fight for the rights of lovers. Mitu, the fiesty ‘Lion of Banda’, has been a vigilante all her life. As for Sampat Pal, the Commander-in-Chief of this motley crew of women, starting the gang was her ultimate calling.

The Pink Sari Revolution is an uplifting David and Goliath story of ordinary, disenfranchised women overcoming powerful oppressors in a remarkable way. It reveals the gritty underbelly of India’s success story and shows the extent to which people will go to achieve  justice in a country that prides itself on being the world’s largest democracy.

Of all the people power movements sweeping across the globe today, this is by far the most colourful.
